We’ve seen Black Myth: Wukong shatter the record for a title’s concurrent player count, and then following its release, Steam saw more than an exabyte of traffic from China. Just when we thought this record-breaking was over, the standing record for the most concurrent players was just broken.
Steam charts lifted by Black Myth: Wukong
According to Steam charts, a whopping 37,259,354 players were playing online on 25 August 2024. At the time of writing this, there are 26,260,352 players online, so the number has significantly decreased, but at this point, we can’t be certain that this record will stay for long.
Also, it isn’t surprising that Black Myth: Wukong is the most-played game right now, but we all know the reigning champion, Counter-Strike 2, will reclaim the throne eventually. Speaking of CS2, Valve’s multiplayer games have long been resting near the top of the charts. Dota 2 is another example. With the development of next-in-line Deadlock hitting record numbers for its early alpha version – even briefly reaching Steam’s top 10 – we could be in line for another mainstay in the coming months, and possibly years.
