Apple recently launched the iPhone 17 series and, as always, we saw people queuing up to get their hands on the newest models. While the series included the standard models expected at every launch, Apple also introduced the iPhone Air (while ditching the Plus). And now, it seems like it may serve as the base for the rumored foldable iPhone.

Although Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about a foldable iPhone, several leaks and reports suggest the company is working on one. It’s expected to feature Samsung’s “crease-free” display, and leaks claim it will arrive in 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 lineup. In fact, the series is expected to include the iPhone 18 Air (or perhaps the iPhone Air Gen 2), iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, with the company skipping the standard iPhone 18.

What we know so far from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman

Now, another interesting detail has emerged. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, as part of his Power On newsletter, the foldable iPhone will be similar to two iPhone Airs placed side by side and will offer a titanium chassis. Durability tests from both iFixit and JerryRigEverything show that the iPhone Air is a very durable phone, and the titanium chassis holds up well. So it makes sense for Apple to go with a similar design for the foldable, since such phones are more prone to damage.

For context, the iPhone Air is 5.6mm thick, and the foldable is expected to be around 4.5 to 4.88mm thick. When folded, it could measure around 9 to 9.5mm thick. On top of that, it is expected to offer a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch cover screen.

Gurman also claims the phone will be manufactured in China, and fans can expect it to cost at least $2,000. This might be the starting price, with higher storage variants going well above the $2,000 mark. This would place it in a similar price range as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, which currently sells for $1,999.

In any case, we’re still far away from an iPhone foldable announcement from Apple, but everything points towards 2026 being the year it is finally introduced. So far, Apple executives have only replied “Who’s to say?” when questioned about the existence of its first foldable iPhone.
