Apple reportedly doubles MacBook Neo production after massively exceeding sales expectations
Table of Contents
Apple’s budget-friendly MacBook Neo appears to be performing far better than the company initially expected. According to a report from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has significantly increased production plans for the laptop after seeing strong demand following its launch in March. Tim Cook celebrated Apple’s “best launch week ever” following its release.
MacBook Neo quickly became one of Apple’s most talked-about products after it was unveiled. The device was designed to bring the MacBook experience to a wider audience with a much lower starting price than traditional MacBook models – starting at $599. That strategy seems to be paying off, as demand has reportedly been much higher than Apple originally expected.
MacBook Neo has been an overwhelming success
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple initially planned to ship around 5 million MacBook Neo units during 2026. However, after seeing how well the laptop performed after launch, the company increased its shipment target to 10 million units. If accurate, that would mean Apple has doubled production expectations within just a few months of the device reaching the market.

Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that customer interest in the MacBook Neo had been far stronger than expected and described the response as being “off the charts” in an April earnings call. Cook also noted that the device helped bring in a record number of first-time Mac buyers during the quarter. Earlier reports suggested Apple could face supply challenges due to the popularity of the laptop, but the latest information indicates the company has managed to increase production to keep up with demand.
One of the biggest reasons behind the MacBook Neo’s popularity is its price. The laptop starts at $599 in the United States, making it the most affordable MacBook Apple has ever released. College students can purchase it for $499 through Apple’s education pricing program, making it even more attractive to younger buyers and students looking for a budget-friendly laptop.
