Next year looks to be a big one for Apple fans. First, the company is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone. And now, it seems the first MacBook with an OLED display is finally coming. It’s a good time to start looking forward to new Apple tech, especially now we’ve just seen the official iPhone 17 and iPhone Air launches.

This news comes from Korean publication TheElec, and a translation on X from Jukan brings us up to speed. It reveals that Samsung Display will begin mass production of OLED panels for Apple’s MacBook Pro in late Q2 of 2026. If everything stays on schedule, the first OLED MacBook could hit the market as early as Q4 2026.

Samsung is supplying OLED panels for Apple, with up to 120Hz refresh rate

According to the leak, Samsung will handle the entire supply chain for the OLED panels. They will produce both 14-inch and 16-inch versions, with an estimated 2 to 3 million units expected to roll out in the first year. Pilot production of the panels is set to begin at the end of this year, while full-scale production of parts will follow in early 2026.

Samsung is a leading firm in the OLED display space, producing some of the best OLED monitors and TVs to date.

This is a major shift for Apple, as the company has been holding back on OLED MacBooks for years. Unlike current LCD models, the OLED versions will offer much better colors and responsiveness. The best part? When asked if the MacBook OLED will feature a 120Hz refresh rate, Jukan confirmed “yes” in response to a question from Zuby Tech on X.

The panels will be produced on Samsung’s 8th-generation OLED line, and the production capacity is expected to be up to 10 million panels annually. Reportedly, not all of this capacity will be used for Apple, as Samsung is also in talks with other big names like Dell, HP, and Lenovo to supply OLED panels for their future laptops. If demand from these companies is slow, Samsung may shift part of its production line to make panels for other types of devices.

The report also mentions that while the MacBook Pro will get OLED first, the MacBook Air won’t see OLED until after 2029. Apple pushed back its timeline, and instead, the Air will get an upgraded LCD in 2027 that uses oxide TFT technology for better performance compared to today’s panels.
