While Atomfall is set to arrive on PC on March 27, those who bought the Deluxe Edition have had access to the game since the 24th. Initial reviews and benchmarks from early access users have shown promising results that might convince you to buy the game upon launch. We recently saw an RTX 5090 benchmark where Nvidia’s latest GPU managed to run the game at native 8K 60 FPS without any major performance issues.

However, despite the game’s strong focus on creating a world jam-packed with details, you don’t need top-tier hardware to enjoy it. In fact, a new benchmark report comparing a wide range of GPUs shows that even if you’re using a seven-year-old GPU, you can still experience Atomfall at 1080p in its best visual quality.

2080 Ti manages to average over 70 FPS at full HD

This benchmark report comes from the German publication PC Games Hardware, which tested 25 GPUs in the most graphics-intensive areas of Atomfall, including Casterfell Woods, a dense forest with vegetation and effects that place significant demands on the game. One of the more interesting results out of this benchmark report comes from the RTX 2080 Ti, which, despite being seven years old, managed an average of 74 FPS at 1080p native with maxed-out graphics settings.

Another surprising result was the GTX 980 Ti, a GPU that is now around nine years old. Despite its age, it delivered an average of 28 FPS at 1080p max settings. And while we don’t have the card to test, with a few settings toned down, we’re sure you can enjoy a stable experience on the GTX 900 series card.

This is why optimization matters

Despite being so demanding on the GPU, Atomfall is a great example of how optimizing your title can allow users with even older-generation GPUs to dive back into gaming. This shows that the developers and studio behind Atomfall, Rebellion, not only put effort into making sure every single detail “pulls its weight,” but also spent time ensuring that not just high-end gamers, but also mid-range and even entry-level players, get to experience this immersion.
