AYN may be fresh off the launch of the 7-inch Odin 3 Portal last week, but the handheld company has made time to collaborate on a special discount. 600 customers will be able to grab a $50 discount on the original Odin 3 thanks to a collaboration with PayPal, with the promotion opening up later today. Customers must use PayPal as their payment method.

The special promotion is a welcome one considering the effect memory and storage shortages have had on the popular Android handheld. A couple of months ago, in August, AYN announced its third Odin 3 price increase, bringing the base price of the device up to $369, with the Pro and Max variants costing $469 and $529, respectively. The 24GB + 1TB Ultra model has also been discontinued.

Odin 3 Portal has arrived, but this discount is for the original Odin 3

AYN announced the special promotion via its Discord server. PayPal is offering $50 off the Odin 3 using the discount code SAVE$50 at checkout. The promotion starts on October 29 at 9 AM BJT (6 PM U.S. Pacific Time today, October 28) and is limited to the first 600 redemptions, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To qualify for the discount, customers must pay using PayPal. Orders placed using other payment methods may be subject to verification and could be cancelled if they do not meet the promotion’s requirements. The offer will end once all 600 redemptions have been claimed.

Despite being available since December last year, AYN is still selling the Odin 3 in ‘pre-order’ batches, currently up to Batch 8. With a $50 discount available for fast-fingered customers, it’s positioned as a cheaper alternative to the new Odin 3 Portal variant, which starts at $419 for a 12GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration at its standard MSRP price.

At the time of writing, however, AYN is still running an early bird price that drops the Portal down to just $399.99, so it’s still worth thinking about if you want the larger screen (both are OLED). See the quick comparison of the two models below for further reference; both feature the same ARM-based Dragonwing Q8 chip (otherwise known as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3).
