TechEpiphany has taken to X to highlight yet another win for AMD’s hugely popular 9800X3D, this time showcasing the chip’s 16,000 sales milestone at MindFactory. If that isn’t impressive enough, the tech reviewer also highlights the impressive revenue numbers the chip has driven to AMD, eclipsing €9 million at the time of writing.

The 9800X3D was an instant hit amongst DIY PC builders and gaming enthusiasts when it launched back on November 7th, 2024, thanks to its high-end gaming performance. It sold out almost immediately at all popular retailers and has since been in and out of stock like a yoyo. Retailers have been limiting 9800X3D purchases to better manage stock availability, with MindFactory only offering 1 sale per customer.
AMD’s dominance continues as 9800X3D comes back in stock
It’s no surprise that AMD’s dominance has continued into 2025, especially with its closest rival (the Intel 285K) being received so poorly by the community. The last time we reported on the sales numbers in Germany, we saw Team Red dominate CPU sales, capturing 92.06% of the market.
That trend has continued into January and looks set to continue for the rest of Q1, as the CPU breezes through the 16,000 sale milestone.
In reality, the only thing stopping this chip from selling even more units is the stock availability. In fact, every time the chip comes back in stock, whether that be Amazon US or Mindfactory in Germany, it sells out almost immediately. Demand for this chip is massive and, despite the brand releasing the 9950X3D and 9900X3D at some stage in Q1, I can’t see the demand slowing.
AMD’s 16-core part will be available sometime in the near future, and according to the latest statements made during a Q&A with our AMD contact, the brand is “excited” about the overclocking potential of the upcoming chip. Whether that’s enough to recreate 9800X3D-esque sales numbers is yet to be seen, but if they can get anywhere close to that, the launch should be classed as a success.
