We recently reported on a mod that brings the iconic cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 to Stardew Valley. We’re of course talking about Baldur’s Village, which even got a seal of approval from Larian CEO Swen Vincke. The fan-made modification got a lot of attention when it released last month, perhaps too much. We say that because it became the victim of a DMCA takedown from Wizards of the Coast (WotC), who recently acquired the rights to BG3 characters.

Swiftly following that bad news was some great news – it was all a mistake. And now, the mod is back up and running. You can currently check it out on Nexus Mods if you’re interested. In reaction to the good news, Larian CEO Swen Vincke made a post on X to praise the swift action from WotC.

DMCA takedown was a mistake, says Wizards of the Coast

This news comes from PC Gamer, who was in contact with a spokesperson from Nexus Mods. They reportedly confirmed that WotC made a DMCA takedown demand for Baldur’s Village, which was made clear by the mod being marked as “under moderation review” on its Nexus Mods page. Since then, WotC has been in contact to confirm that the takedown was a mistake.

“The Baldur’s Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenly—we are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!”

Now, as of April 1st, the mod is back up and the moderation review is no longer ongoing. Fans have been celebrating this over on Reddit, noting that Baldur’s Village isn’t stopping development because of this blip. The creators are considering adding new events and romances if fans continue to support it. This will depend on three things:

  • Nexus download & endorsement count
  • Crowdfunding support
  • Whether we encounter issues with piracy, unauthorized reuploads, or reselling of the mod
