Baldur’s Gate 3 players using mods shouldn’t have to wait on long loading screens anymore

Table of Contents
It’s been more than a month since Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 7 dropped, a massive update for the BG3 modding community. The patch first arrived on PC, later becoming available on Mac and consoles. The update brought along official mod support to the game, giving players tools to create what they like in the popular role-playing title.
One of the biggest developments was the BG3 Toolkit Unlocked mod, which gave users even more tools to play with. So, while everyone has been enjoying all the mods they can get their hands on, it seems like it has had a negative effect on performance. However, a new hotfix now helps speed up loading times, among other improvements.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 28 is now live
Hotfix #28 went live on October 16th and is full of bug fixes, many concerning modding and the game’s Mod Manager. One patch note that caught our eye is: “Improved loading times for players with many mods installed”. We all know that mods are a fantastic way of upping a game’s lifespan, but it shouldn’t come with a hit on performance; now this hotfix resolves that.
You can find the full patch notes here. Below we’ve put together a quick rundown on what we think are the biggest changes for PC players.
- Fixed a bug preventing you from opening the Mod Manager on PC when using a controller
- Fixed a crash that could occur when changing pages in the Mod Manager
- Improved loading times for players with many mods installed
- Fixed a crash that could occur when loading a savegame
We’re still waiting for mods on GeForce Now
GeForce Now, Nvidia’s popular cloud gaming service is compatible with Baldur’s Gate 3. This means you can enjoy the game via streaming, ideal for low-end devices or even handhelds. However, there’s a catch – BG3 mods are not currently supported if you play through this method, nor will they be synchronized if you choose to download any. Last month we saw GFN mention they’re working on bringing mod support to the streaming service, but the timeframe is indefinite at the moment.
