A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has managed to unlock hidden, or rather disabled, features within Larian Studios’ official modding toolkit, granting players even more control over custom content for the game. This comes less than a week after Larian officially released Patch 7, which included the new toolkit.

The BG3 Toolkit Unlocked mod, created by Siegfre and available on Nexus Mods, essentially breaks through the limitations of the official toolkit, giving players full access to level editing, save editing, and more. This is despite Larian’s intention to restrict access to certain features to ensure the game’s stability and support.

BG3 Toolkit Unlocked goes beyond the usual parameters

While the official BG3 Toolkit was designed to allow players to create custom content using assets provided by Larian, the Toolkit Unlocked mod goes far beyond that. As the mod’s description reads: “Unlocks all features and write permissions for the BG3 Toolkit including level editing, save editing, and more.”

Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, previously stated that Baldur’s Gate 3’s mod support would not be as extensive as that of Divinity: Original Sin 2 due to the complexity of the game’s tools. However, the Toolkit Unlocked mod demonstrates that even with these limitations, creative players can find ways to push the boundaries of the game.

The discovery of the Toolkit Unlocked mod has generated significant excitement within the Baldur’s Gate 3 community. Players are already hard at work creating new mods, ranging from custom characters and items to entirely new storylines. It remains to be seen how Larian Studios will respond to this development and whether they will take steps to address the unintended access granted by the mod.

In addition to the modding toolkit, Patch 7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 also introduced numerous other new features, including a “metal” ending for Karlach and a hidden evil ending. Larian Studios has also confirmed that this is not the final patch for the game, suggesting that there are still more updates to come.
