Recent tests have revealed that even the entry-level ROG Ally model can handle the (relatively) demanding Black Ops 6 Beta with surprising ease. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U processor and RDNA 2 graphics, the ROG Ally Z1 offers a solid performance boost over traditional gaming consoles.
Despite being positioned as a more affordable option within the ROG Ally lineup, it has managed to deliver a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience for Black Ops 6 beta players. Most people would recommend the Ryzen Z1 Extreme variant (or newer ROG Ally X) over the entry-level pick, but if you do have the latter, then BO6 should be within reach according to these benchmarks.
Capabilities put to the test
The Z1’s capabilities were put to the test in various gameplay scenarios, including multiplayer matches and demanding single-player missions. The handheld consistently maintained stable frame rates, even during peak action sequences. While there were occasional dips in performance, they were generally minor and did not significantly impact the overall gaming experience. Footage (as seen above) was captured by YouTuber TechHarmonics.
One of the factors contributing to the Z1’s impressive performance is its efficient cooling system. The device features a dual-fan design that effectively dissipates heat, preventing thermal throttling and ensuring optimal performance. This is particularly important for games like Black Ops 6, which can be quite demanding on hardware.
While the Z1 may not offer the same level of performance as the more powerful ROG Ally models, it still provides excellent value for money. For gamers who prioritize affordability without sacrificing too much in terms of performance, the Z1 is certainly a compelling choice – especially given these recent developments.
A warning on bans
You may have heard about ROG Ally users getting banned in Call of Duty in the past, particularly MW3, so we’d be cautious of that. There seems to be no evidence of this happening in the BO6 beta from what we’ve seen so far. As a precaution though, try and avoid changing TDP limits or other ROG Ally overlay or Armory Crate settings before you head into a match.
