Call of Duty H2 Multiplayer Mod gets shut down, player count falls off a cliff amid mass refunds
Table of Contents
Hype had been building for a new project known as H2 Multiplayer, but the fan-made game mod has been hit by a massive blow. As a result of a Cease & Desist order from Activision, operations have been forcibly shut down. The modification was designed to bring classic MW2 multiplayer content to the newer Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered engine via the 2017 title.
Not many people are too surprised by Activision’s actions given the content is rightfully their IP, but it has dashed a few dreams of reliving that (now) classic MW2 feel on a newer and more secure version of the engine. Following the announcement for the mod’s development team, we’ve noticed many people rushing to refund MWR as well as a sudden drop in the player count. A good old-fashioned review bomb also isn’t missed.
H2 Multiplayer Mod gets Cease & Desist order

A bombshell post from H2Multiplayer Mod on X details all we need to know about its development. Furthermore, the account’s bio has been changed to ‘SHUTDOWN’. We don’t exactly expect it to make a sudden comeback either. The H2M mod originally planned to contain over 50 maps, an MW2-style progression system, original killstreaks, and more – bringing the 2009 MW2 experience back.

Following the massive build-up of hype, players have been buying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam in preparation, with the player count seeing a massive spike in time for the mod’s scheduled release on August 16th. The game was even on sale in the run-up to release, only to be shot down as it didn’t even get the chance to launch fully.
Player count plummets following mass refunds
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered had been all but forgotten as the usual COD playerbase moved on to newer games, particularly considering the success of Warzone. Spiking up to a peak of 2,557 concurrent players just ahead of the mod’s launch, this has since fallen off a cliff as demonstrated by the graph below.
With plenty of these players returning only interested in the H2M mod, many people could simply refund the game thanks to having less than two hours of playtime. You’ll find many people proudly displaying their refunds on X posts or over on Reddit.
