Devs say Metro 2039 system requirements on Steam “absolutely not correct” but confirm one important detail
Table of Contents
If you’ve recently been trying to figure out whether your gaming PC can run Metro 2039, ahead of its launch on February 4, you may have come across some system requirements on the game’s Steam store page. Well, it turns out these are completely false, and they have now been removed. In a response to fans, developers 4A Games say the official specs will be “revealed closer to launch as we continue to work on and optimize the game”.
The system requirements section of the Metro 2039 Steam store page has essentially been wiped, but they previously featured a minimum of the RTX 3060 paired with the Core i5-14600K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 16GB of RAM. The bar was lifted massively in the recommended specs, jumping up to flagship hardware such as the RTX 4090, Core i9-14900KS or Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and a whopping 64GB of RAM. On the storage side of things, 135GB of space was listed for both tiers.
Metro 2039 will require a ray tracing-capable graphics card
These are absolutely not correct specs, they are literally made up placeholders that were put live by accident when the store pages went live. We never release our specs this early as optimisation and work on the game is still ongoing and will be for some time. It’s not anything more than an error that we have since removed when it was brought to our attention.
It still stands that METRO 2039 will require a ray tracing capable card but that is all we can tell you until we are ready to reveal the actual specs.

While the lack of a graphics card with ray tracing support may block access for those with aging hardware, it’s no longer a surprising requirement for modern AAA games. This was also a minimum requirement on Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition released in 2021, though you could always still fall back on the original version if your GPU lacks hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Below is a summary of which discrete cards offer support:

So, while we don’t know exactly what it will take to run Metro 2039 on your gaming PC, you should at least have a graphics card released within the past few generations to ensure ray tracing support. Most recently, we saw the same requirement in Gears of War: E-Day. The 135GB of storage space that was previously listed may also be a good early indicator of the game’s final size.
As the much-anticipated sequel to Metro Exodus, Metro 2039 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-purchase is already available on storefronts such as Steam, where the game costs $69.99 / $99.99 for the Standard and Deluxe Edition versions, respectively. The Metro 2039 Specialist Pack comes as a pre-order bonus.
