Fans of the Gears of War series are eagerly waiting for Gears of War: Reloaded to launch. The game was announced back in May this year and is scheduled to release today (August 26). In fact, there are only a few hours left until launch, so the wait will be over soon. And even though the game is not here yet, the developers have already announced a Day 1 patch.

The developers shared the details of the patch on their X account, where they explained that players will notice fewer crashes, as well as fewer gameplay and UI bugs. In many cases, new games have crashing issues at launch, and players are always prepared for the worst. We’ve seen this happen with a bunch of new titles released this year, so it’s great to see that the developers are trying to make the experience smooth for everyone on day one.

Gears of War: Reloaded day 1 patch notes

  • Multiple crash fixes and incremental performance enhancements across PC and console platforms
  • Resolved numerous gameplay, UI, and localization bugs – from controller input quirks to incorrect in-game text – for a smoother experience.
  • Minor feature tweaks like improved handheld device support switching (mouse & keyboard mode) and refined settings behavior enhance overall usability.
  • Consoles: The game now properly handles cases where in-game global power saving  is disabled but certain modes (campaign/versus) tried to use power-save features.
  • Consoles: Fix for fire texture and animation isn’t shown properly in Campaign.
  • PC: Fixed a persistent low-frame-rate issue when connecting a DualSense® controller to a PC.
  • Handheld: Fixed mouse input issues on certain handheld PCs – the mouse sensitivity on handheld devices has been corrected to respond consistently.

The devs also confirmed that using DualSense controllers on PC was causing the FPS to drop in Gears of War: Reloaded, but the issue has been fixed through the latest patch. Aside from that, they’ve made some minor tweaks and adjustments to improve the overall experience on PC.

For console users, the patch fixes an issue that was preventing the fire texture and animation from appearing properly in the Campaign. On top of that, they can expect to see fewer crashes and performance issues at launch. The Day 1 patch also fixes mouse input issues on certain handheld PCs, and like other platforms, you can expect better performance at launch if you’re using a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, or any other handheld.

More improvements ahead of launch

Last week, the devs shared a list of improvements they made to the game based on the technical observations and feedback from players during the multiplayer beta. This included general stability improvements, cross-platform improvements, more dedicated servers, a new 240 FPS option for PC, improved Ultrawide monitor support, and optimization for ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Plus, they also marked the game as Verified on the Steam Deck, meaning it will run smoothly on the handheld out of the box.
