We’re just a couple of days away from the Google Pixel 10 launch. August 20 is the date to mark in your calendars if you haven’t already – this is when the Made by Google event will be taking place to showcase Google’s latest range of smartphones. New hands-on benchmarks have surfaced online, and they tell us that Pixel 9 users can probably stick to what they already have.

Leaks tell us that the Pixel 10 models will feature the latest Google Tensor G5 chip, as expected, as a generational upgrade from last year’s G4. And while the tests show a sizeable uplift in CPU Multi-Core performance, the overall improvement is pretty average. Do note that these scores are yet to be verified, but it’s the most conclusive proof of performance we have so far.

Benchmarks leaked on Reddit compare the Pro 9 XL and Pro 10 XL models. We can see that the new flagship smartphone isn’t miles ahead of its predecessor in the popular AnTuTu benchmark for Android. This doesn’t come as a massive surprise, given the fact that Pixel 10 specs leaked over a month ago suggested there was little for existing Pixel 9 owners to get excited about.

The results point towards a ~16% performance boost across the board, though there is the issue of the poor GPU scores, which may be due to a lack of updated drivers at the time of benchmarking on the demo unit. In any case, Google’s reveal should provide us with some in-house numbers for officially comparing Tensor G4 and Tensor G5 performance.

We don’t want to sound too harsh, so it should be noted that the new Pixel 10 phones will still deliver solid performance, based on this benchmark. But if you’ve already got a Pixel 9, there doesn’t seem to be much reason to upgrade. On the bright side, a recent leak tells us that all three Pixel 10 models will get a higher battery capacity.
