We’re less than a month away from the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. Everyone is looking forward to the launch on June 5th, whether you have your Switch 2 pre order ready or not. However, for those who aren’t ready to upgrade or are simply happy to stick to the original, you’ll be glad to know that Nintendo isn’t abandoning the OG console yet.

In its recent yearly financial report, Nintendo has confirmed five new first-party games coming to the original console. The company has been keeping track of games that aren’t compatible with the Switch 2 yet, and has also re-confirmed a list of 12 games that get a free Switch 2 upgrade.

Announced first-party games for the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s financial report was released last week, and there was plenty to dig through. The company expects the sequel console to sell even better than the original in its first fiscal year, reaching just as many sales in a shorter amount of time. While there is plenty of hype for the Switch 2, the report also re-confirmed five first-party games coming to the Switch 1. A first-party game is defined as one developed or published by Nintendo in some capacity.

  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • Rhythm Heaven Groove
  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
  • Pokémon Champions

No exact dates have been confirmed yet, but we know that Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be arriving later this year. Both miss out on being launch titles for the Switch 2. The console has a limited amount of day-one exclusives, the biggest of which is Mario Kart World. The latest MK installment can be bought in a bundle with the console.

It’s unknown how long Nintendo will continue to support the original Switch. According to the company’s 2025 financial report, it forecasts software sales of 105 million units for the Switch 1; this number is still more than double Switch 2’s expected software sales. Last year, Nintendo sold 155.41 million (software) units for the Switch 1.
