Over the past few weeks, Intel has had quite a downturn in its financial status and its perception as a good company with its products. It started with the 13th and 14th Gen instability issue saga (which is still ongoing to this day) and eclipsed with a Gamer Nexus investigation which resulted in the YouTuber claiming that the leading CPU brand had known about the issue for years.

To make things worse, its stocks plummeted shortly after, and the brand was then sued by its shareholders for the loss and massive cost-cutting Intel introduced. Well, the latest attempt at saving money has also affected its big event, as the brand has decided to postpone its Innovation event.

This event is the usual ground for the company to provide the biggest updates on its upcoming product lineup. As in previous years, we got the announcement of Meteor Lake at Innovation 2023, Raptor Lake in 2022, and Alder Lake in 2021. This gave us a good enough reason to believe Intel would announce the Raptor Lake release date at this year’s event in September. But with the cancellation, that might not be the case anymore.

Reasons for cancellation and potential next announcement dates

Intel clarified that the Innovation event will be postponed to 2025 at the earliest, due to the financial results and outlook for the second half of the year in a statement it gave to PCMag. But it has promised to continue to host smaller more targeted events throughout the rest of the year to try and make up some of the lost potential.

But there is no direct mention of any hardware launch events to make up for the event being delayed. Although it does have other opportunities to do so, as it already said its Lunar Lake mobile processors will be coming on September 3rd at IFA in Germany and those have not yet been affected. That means it could just do the same with the desktop series and follow AMD who announced its Ryzen 9000 series at Computex. Or it could hold off for a more major event like CEX in 2025. Time will tell but it certainly has been a rather tough time for the company.
