Nvidia’s latest graphics driver is finally making a difference, but there are still a few “open issues”

Table of Contents
Since the launch of the RTX 50 series a few months ago, the new GPUs have been hit by several annoying issues. Limited availability and price hikes are nothing new to us, but the missing ROPs debacle and black screen issues have been plaguing Nvidia fans, even those on older hardware, forcing many users to rollback their drivers where possible.
Nvidia has since rolled out a couple of hotfixes and new driver updates with mixed results. The good news is that the latest version (576.28) has gotten the best reception we’ve seen yet. The bad news is that there are still some issues to be resolved, and not everyone’s machine is running as stably as they’d like.
Users report more stability and no black screens or crashes
Following a rocky start to the RTX 50 series, especially with poor driver support affecting both the new and older cards (such as the RTX 30 and 40 series), it’s nice to see things being turned around. GPU prices are also starting to fall in Europe, where we’ve seen both the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070 drop below MSRP. The higher-end card prices are still inflated, however.
According to a thread on X, users report that previous black screen and crashing issues have been fixed with the latest 576.28 driver version, which was released at the end of April. Considering the fact that even game developers were telling players to roll back to December drivers was a telling sign. Of course, this was possible for the older-gen cards, but new 50 series owners were stuck with the newer drivers, meaning hotfixes were desperately needed.
Keep in mind that not everyone has benefited from the latest driver version. For example, one user still reports black screens with the RTX 3080 on v576.28, and a DLSS 4 frame generation with V-Sync issue persists, though this is expected to be fixed in Nvidia’s next update. On top of this, Nvidia lists several “Open Issues” with the 576.28 WHQL version.
