Apple recently launched the iPhone 17 series, which includes the base model iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. There’s also the latest addition to the iPhone family, the iPhone Air. Ever since launch, many have been wondering how the phones compare against competitors, especially the Galaxy S25 series. Well, they seem to perform well in battery life tests.

A well-known leaker, UniverseIce on X, recently shared a chart showing the battery performance of different phones. The exact source is not made clear, but it’s likely from an launch review. The chart included the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, and Galaxy S25 Ultra.

iPhone 17 Pro Max lasts over three hours longer than Galaxy S25 Ultra

According to the chart, the iPhone 17 Pro Max lasted 17 hours and 55 minutes in a battery life test. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, lasted only 14 hours and 28 minutes. While this is still a solid battery time, the test shows the 17 Pro Max can last 3 hours and 27 minutes longer than Samsung’s current flagship. We cannot confirm the exact testing conditions.

Close behind the S25 Ultra is the 16 Pro Max, which lasted 14 hours and 17 minutes in the test. As for the iPhone 17, it lasted 12 hours and 47 minutes, followed by the iPhone Air with a battery time of 12 hours and 3 minutes. Overall, the 17 Pro Max was the clear winner here, and this isn’t surprising considering it packs a massive battery. Here’s a quick battery comparison to give you an idea of what each model offers:

ModelMax battery capacity
iPhone Air3,149 mAh
iPhone 173,692 mAh
iPhone 17 Pro4,252 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro Max4,685 mAh
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra5,000 mAh
iPhone 17 Pro Max5,088 mAh

For those who don’t know, the removal of the SIM tray from the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max has allowed Apple to fit a larger battery inside the phones – if you get the eSIM-only model. Many regions still have the option of a physical SIM card slot model, but Apple has extended the number of regions that are eSIM only. The iPhone Air is eSIM-only worldwide. The models with a physical card slot have slightly reduced capacity; for example, the 17 Pro Max drops to 4,832 mAh.
