Apple launched the iPhone Duo last week, marking the company’s first entry into the foldable smartphone market. However, the launch hasn’t been going quite as smoothly as Apple may have hoped. Reports of cracked displays started appearing shortly after release, and now some early users are also running into software problems.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has highlighted a couple of surprising issues with the iPhone Duo, including one involving Apple’s own FaceTime app. According to Gurman, FaceTime Picture in Picture appears to be missing on the iPhone Duo, which is particularly strange considering the larger screen is one of the biggest advantages of a foldable device.

Notifications also have issues on the foldable

Gurman reported another apparent iOS bug affecting notifications. He claims that swiping down to reply to a text notification can cause the message bubble to turn black, preventing the user from actually sending a reply. While neither issue makes the phone unusable, they’re unexpected problems to encounter with basic iOS features on a newly released flagship device.

Other iPhone Duo owners have shared more serious experiences. One user responding to Gurman said their phone became stuck on a blurred MagSafe detection screen in the middle of the night, with the display no longer responding. They eventually had to perform a forced restart using the volume and power buttons. The same user also claimed they had encountered several other problems, including being unable to swipe away apps unless the Duo was unfolded.

Another owner reported that both displays on their device became completely unresponsive. Unlike some of the cracked inner-screen reports that have appeared since launch, this user said there was no visible damage. They also claimed that performing a hard reset and restoring the phone didn’t bring the displays back to normal.

It’s still too early to know how widespread these problems are, and reports from individual users don’t necessarily mean every iPhone Duo is affected. However, the combination of software bugs and display complaints isn’t ideal for a device that has only been available for around a week. That being said, we can only expect Apple to bring solutions in every iOS update.
