Another day, another centralized server has gone down for a Metaverse game. Roblox has recently run a promotion with Chipotle Mexican Grill, giving away real and virtual food at Chipotle Grill locations across America and inside Roblox. To link it all with Halloween, their Burrito offering is currently called a ‘Boorito’, which is absolute genius. However, it looks like this offer is to blame for some unexpected Roblox downtime:
The thing is, this could also be a DDoS attack. Roblox developers have shed their opinion on the situation, stating “It looks like Roblox’s internal APIs e.g. thumbnails and games have been continuously going offline and coming back online. This could be a result of a DDoS attack on said internally used APIs or a more generalized system fault,”
If this is really the case, digital Booritos aren’t to blame. Distributed Network Attacks, or a Distributed Denial of Service spams servers with requests to a point where they crash due to exceeding server capacity. We have no idea what’s going down at this point in time, but as soon as we do we’ll update you right here.
How to get a Chipotle Boorito in Roblox
To kick things off, get dressed in your Halloween garb and visit a Chipotle Grill between now and October 31st for a free Boorito. Virtually, you’ll need to start and complete the Chipotle Boorito Maze game, here’s the official blurb from Roblox:
