Nvidia’s rumored GeForce RTX 5080 24GB may be getting closer, but a new report suggests board partners still don’t have the hardware they need to prepare their graphics cards. This could make the previously rumored January 2027 launch difficult to achieve, especially with the GPU industry already dealing with tight component supply.

According to BenchLife, Nvidia had reportedly been expected to provide RTX 5080 24GB design kits to its add-in board partners by the end of October. However, those kits have apparently not arrived yet. They are important because Nvidia typically provides partners with the GPU and memory needed to develop, test, and validate their custom graphics cards before mass production can begin.

When can we expect to see the 24GB RTX 5080?

Even if the new 24GB model shares plenty with the existing RTX 5080, manufacturers still need time to make sure their designs work properly. Previous reports have suggested that the card could have a 415W TDP, compared with 360W for the current RTX 5080, which could require changes to cooling and power delivery on some custom models.

This puts recent rumors of a January launch into question. In the past, board partners have reportedly needed at least six weeks after receiving the necessary design information to prepare a new GPU for release. That process could now take even longer due to component shortages and growing demand from the AI industry.

Itโ€™s important to keep in mind that a January release is still possible, but the missing design kits can make things a bit difficult. Nvidia could still announce the RTX 5080 24GB at CES 2027, which runs from January 6 to 9, before releasing the graphics cards several weeks later. It’s also unclear whether Nvidia will market it as an RTX 5080 24GB or revive the previously rumored RTX 5080 Super branding. CES gave us no new GPUs from Nvidia last year, so gamers may be hoping for something this time around.
