The latest Windows 11 update has rolled out, and it comes with a few major updates to Copilot+ PCs in particular. Microsoft is reshaping how its Copilot AI assistant fits into Windows, and the changes suggest it could eventually become a true alternative to the classic Start menu, in line with what CEO Satya Nadella once said he hoped it would become (before the backlash against it).

Until now, the tool has mostly just been a sidebar for chat-style interactions, but the revamped Copilot app introduces a new Home tab, replacing the default chat window with a hub that shows your recent activity. Users can still talk to Copilot, but they’ll also see quick-access boxes for past conversations, recently opened files, and app-specific shortcuts. While currently limited in scope, the design resembles a central launchpad. This seems to hint at Microsoft’s long-term vision of Copilot as a one-stop assistant for navigating and managing PCs.

Alongside this, Microsoft is also updating the controversial Recall feature, which takes encrypted snapshots of user activity on Copilot+ PCs. The new Recall homepage highlights recent actions and snapshots, making it easier to resume tasks.

Though there’s no confirmation that Copilot will replace the Start menu outright, these changes indicate that Microsoft is laying the groundwork for deeper AI integration in Windows – especially as more devices ship with built-in NPUs to power these features.

Other major Windows 11 updates

• AI Agent in Settings rolls out to AMD & Intel machines: Previously limited to computers powered by Snapdragon X chips, those with AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs can now use the AI Agent function within the Settings menu to ask it queries (where things are, what settings to use, other recommendations, etc.).
• Customizable Widgets on the lock screen: You can now select specific widgets to be displayed on the lock screen, rather than just all or none of them.
• Windows Search results displayed in a grid: If you are looking for images in particular, the search function will now display its results in a grid view.
• A bigger clock display in the notification centre: This now shows seconds in addition to the minutes and the hours.
