It turns out Nintendo Switch 2’s Piranha Plant webcam comes with a shockingly low resolution

Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release on June 5, though the launch has been delayed in China. The upcoming console brings several improvements over the original Switch, including better performance, updated features, and an improved display. Pre-orders are already live, which is great news for fans who want to get their hands on the console on day one.
Along with the console itself, you can find several accessories on the Nintendo Store for the Switch 2, such as a Piranha Plant Camera, currently listed on the UK store for £33.99. This is the same peripheral we featured on PC Guide last week, when we praised the fact that it makes the official one look boring.

Piranha Plant Camera for the Nintendo Switch 2
The Piranha Plant Camera is, of course, designed to look like the famous plant from the Mario games. It has a detachable camera unit with a flexible neck that lets you adjust the angle, and the plant's mouth can open or close to cover the camera lens when not in use.
It plugs into a Warp Pipe-shaped base that connects to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock, after which you can place it anywhere near your TV. And when you’re playing in portable mode, you can connect the camera directly to the top of the console. The package includes the camera unit, base, USB-C to USB-C cable, and a 3.5mm Stereo Right-Angle Adapter. However, while it looks great, the new listing reveals a disappointing downside: its resolution is limited to 480p.
Get the official webcam for better video quality
While the Piranha Plant Camera looks fun and unique, it’s not the best option if quality is important to you. This is because Nintendo also has an official webcam for the Switch 2 that offers much better visuals (and it’s available in the US). This camera plugs into the console's USB-C port, has a wide-angle lens that can be adjusted freely, and includes a high-sensitivity sensor that automatically adjusts brightness.
Most importantly, it offers 1080p resolution, which means clearer, sharper video quality. And it's not even that much more expensive, as the official webcam costs £49.99, which is only £16 more than the Piranha Plant Camera when comparing the UK prices. We’d like to see a 4K camera, but 1080p isn’t the end of the world.
In any case, it’s important to keep in mind that both cameras are not available for pre-order at the moment. They will be available for purchase on June 5, the same day the Nintendo Switch 2 is released.
