What does the Samsung Odyssey G9 49-inch offer?

Here are some important features of this curved gaming monitor:

  • 49-Inch 1000R curved screen and Dual QHD resolution: The 1000R curve means the screen wraps around your entire field of view. This provides an immersive experience and makes you feel as if you’re a part of the game’s world. On top of that, the curve reduces eye movement, which reduces the stress on the eyes. The monitor also delivers sharp, detailed visuals thanks to its 5120×1440 resolution.
  • High refresh rate: The Odyssey G9 also offers a pretty impressive refresh rate of 240 Hz, something that makes fast movements appear smooth. This is useful for those who are into competitive gaming and play games that benefit from such a high refresh rate.
  • 1000 Nits peak brightness and HDR 1000: The monitor’s peak brightness of 1000 Nits makes it easy to use in well-lit environments. It also supports HDR 1000, which makes the colors look more vibrant.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Pro: This feature helps with eliminating screen tearing and stuttering. It basically syncs the monitor’s refresh rate with the graphics card, which results in smoother gameplay.
  • Adjustable stand: You can adjust the monitor’s height, tilt, and swivel to suit your setup. Whether you’re sitting or standing, you can find a comfortable position. On top of that, you can also attach a monitor arm if needed, as the Odyssey G9 is compatible with VESA mounts.

Is the monitor worth getting?

If you’re someone like me who is always switching between work and gaming or wants plenty of screen space, then the Samsung Odyssey G9 is definitely worth getting. My productivity has significantly increased since getting the monitor, and it feels like I have two 27-inch displays placed side by side – just that there isn’t a bezel in between to distract or annoy me. With such a large, curved display, I can keep several tabs, windows, or even apps open at the same time without having to switch between them constantly.

Thanks to the Dual QHD resolution, the text looks sharp, the colors are vibrant, and the images appear with great detail. This has made a huge difference when I’m working on projects that require attention to detail, such as video editing. The extra screen space also makes it easier to spread out my work. For example, I can have a script open on one side, the video editing software in the middle, and a reference video on the other side.

The gaming experience has also been nothing less than incredible. I’m currently using the RTX 3080, and it handles most of the latest games with ease on this monitor, even with all settings maxed out. Before getting the Odyssey G9, I was a bit concerned that the large 49-inch display might feel overwhelming or too big for gaming. However, the 1000R curve really makes a difference as it wraps around my field of view and lets me focus on the core gameplay.

In any case, based on my experience, the Samsung Odyssey G9 is definitely worth getting, especially at the price it’s currently listed at. I paid full price for it two years ago and don’t regret my decision.
