Latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 update fixes game-breaking bug for custom class mods

Table of Contents
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of those games perfect for modding and developer Larian has fully embraced it. When Patch 7 was released for BG3 back in September last year, it brought official mod support to the game. Since then, there has been a growing number of mods, with some ambitious projects well underway thanks to the official modding tools.
And now, we’re closer than ever to the release of Patch 8, though no specific date has been given yet. The problem with updates is that they can break modding compatibility, but the fact Patch 8 will likely be the last major update means it’s an open road ahead for the modding community. In the latest Patch 8 stress test, Larian has fixed an important issue affecting class and subclass mods that prevented leveling up.
Modded classes and subclasses can now level up
In the run-up to the release of Patch 8, Larian is running invite-only stress tests to ensure the big update is ready to ship without any issues. Yesterday, on March 20th, the update #3 patch notes were released with a long list of bug fixes, as well as some adjustments to the new photo mode.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Stress Test Update #3
- Fixed a bug where the Mod Verification window wouldn’t accurately show whether a recently downloaded or updated mod was enabled or disabled.
- Fixed a mod issue preventing some modded classes and subclasses from levelling up.
Focusing on mods, the most important change is the fix for modded classes and subclasses. Custom classes have long been a popular way to play BG3 in a brand-new way, and a previous bug that prevented you from leveling up your character essentially halts all progress, so we think it’s safe to call it game-breaking. Thankfully, this has now been fixed.
Everyone loves more classes to play around with. As part of Patch 8, Larian is adding a new subclass for each of the game’s 12 main classes, giving players a ton more content to tuck into. No doubt that modders will leverage these new subclasses to make even more of their own, hence why this level-up fix is a big deal.
If you want to read more about Baldur’s Gate 3 modding, we recommend checking out two upcoming mods with an impressive amount of scope: Path to Menzoberranzan and The Grand Theater. Another important change in Patch 8 is that all mods can be turned on with a single button, which is a lifesaver for those of you with a growing list of mods in use.
