LG G5 OLED release date

The Korean tech giant hasn’t specifically confirmed the 2025 release date for the LG G5, though we do know that the LG C5 release date is set for April 6th – this is thanks to early retailer listings. The official LG store reveals that pre-orders for the G5 OLED will start shipping “the week of” March 31st, and a special soundbar offer will be running until April 6th as well. These dates and offers also apply to the C5, so we think it’s all but confirmed that wide availability can be expected for the 6th.

Here’s how the current release date information for the G5 compares to the previous two generations:

LG G5 OLED specs

The LG G5 (along with the M5) are the two TVs in LG’s OLED lineup that are getting the biggest update: both coming with a new ‘Brightness Booster Ultimate‘ panel technology that reportedly will have 40% higher peak ‘full-screen brightness', along with a boost in more localized brightness that will likely mean an uplift of several hundred nits (though we’ll have to wait for independent testing to know for sure).

The previous-gen MLA panels were impressive enough already in terms of brightness, so we’re excited to see what these latest screens look like in person. It is important to note, however, that this panel upgrade appears to be limited to the 55″, 65″, 77″, and 83″ models, with LG not making the same claims with regards to the largest 97″ size screen and the new 48″ variant – the first time this smaller size has been an option for the G-series.

The maximum refresh rate of the screen is being upped slightly to 165Hz from the previous 144Hz, which is a smallish increase but still good news for gamers.

In terms of processing power, the G5 will come with the upgraded Alpha 11 Gen 2 (as will the M5), an upgrade over the Gen 1 in the G4. This isn’t a massive upgrade, but it should still offer great performance when it comes to upscaling and smoothing lower-quality footage. Like the other OLED TV releases from the company this year, the G5 will run on the latest webOS 25, which comes with an array of AI features like ‘smart profiles’ with voice recognition and activation, plus an AI Picture wizard to help tweak the image to your exact specifications.

The overall aesthetic design of the TV will remain similar to last year’s model. The size, weight, and wall mount will vary depending on the TV size. These specifications were taken from Richer Sounds.

  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (4K/UHD)
  • Maximum Refresh Rate: 165Hz
  • Peak brightness (10% screen size): approx 1,800 nits (estimated)

  • Input ports: 4x HDMI 2.1
  • Panel bit depth: 10-bit
  • Response time: 0.1000
  • Upscaling: 4K
  • CPU: α11 Gen2
  • Smart TV operating system: webOS 25

LG G5 OLED price

There were actually some previous leaks regarding the G5 price ahead of the release, but we no longer have to rely on that. LG has officially revealed the pricing of the new high-end generation for all different sizes, excluding the 48″ model – this is expected to come at a later date considering it is not included in the current pre orders.

We’ve also listed the prices of the LG G4 and G3 so that you can compare them against the LG G5.

What panel technology will the new LG G5 TV come with?

As we’ve previously reported, LG hasn’t yet revealed the specific source of this ‘Brightness Booster Ultimate‘ tech, however the likely source seems to be so-called ‘4-stack OLED’ panels. These new panels are not only (apparently) capable of reaching higher peak brightness than the previous generation of MLA panels but are likely also more affordable to manufacture, which seems to be the likely reason that LG has moved away from the pricey MLA technology.

Will an OLED TV last 10 years?

An OLED TV or any other can easily last 10 years and even more than that if proper care is taken. The main drawback of OLED TVs is the issue of burn-in, for which many brands have introduced software and hardware improvements such as better cooling and pixel shifting.

Besides that, direct sunlight for extended periods can also damage electronics and fade their color, which makes them look less appealing, so it is best to install an OLED TV away from sunlight and in a room with plenty of airflow to promote better cooling.
