LG has officially unveiled its 2025 OLED TV lineup during this year’s CES convention, and the G5 looks set to be one of the best OLED TVs of 2025.

Along with giving us the first proper look at the new smart TV, LG has confirmed many of its new specifications, including the uplift from the new panel tech that it has been implemented into it. We’ve yet to get any definitive confirmation in terms of pricing or release date, but we can make a fairly accurate approximation based upon the historical release patterns. The latest LG G5 OLED release date estimate

The Korean tech giant hasn’t yet confirmed the 2025 release date for the LG G5, though we can make a decent estimate by comparing against when the previous generations hit shelves.

As you can see below, March 2025 looks to be the most likely time window (with some variation on the exact date being likely between geographical regions and different retailers), though we may see the release possibly land in April as the LG B4 did last year.

LG G5 OLED specs

The LG G5 (along with the M5) are the two TVs in LG’s OLED lineup that are getting the biggest update: both coming with a new ‘Brightness Booster Ultimate‘ panel technology that reportedly will have 40% higher peak ‘full-screen brightness’, along with a boost in more localized brightness that will likely mean an uplift of several hundred nits (though we’ll have to wait for independent testing to know for sure).

The previous-gen MLA panels were impressive enough already in terms of brightness, so we’re excited to see what these latest screens look like in person. It is important to note however that this panel upgrade appears to be limited to the 55″, 65″, 77″, and 83″ models, with LG not making the same claims with regards to the largest 97″ size screen and the new 48″ variant – the first time this smaller size has been an option for the G-series.

The maximum refresh rate of the screen is being upped slightly to 165Hz from the previous 144Hz, which is a smallish increase but still good news for gamers.

In terms of processing power, the G5 will come with the upgraded Alpha 11 Gen 2 (as will the M5), an upgrade over the Gen 1 in the G4. This isn’t a massive upgrade but it should still offer great performance when it comes to upscaling and smoothing of lower quality footage. Like the other OLED TV releases from the company this year, the G5 will run on the latest webOS 25, which comes with an array of AI features like ‘smart profiles’ with voice recognition and activation, plus an AI Picture wizard to help tweak the image to your exact specifications.

The overall aesthetic design of the TV will remain similar to last year’s model.

  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (4K/UHD)
  • Maximum Refresh Rate: 165Hz
  • Peak brightness (10% screen size): approx 1,800 nits (estimated)
  • HDR support: Dolby Vision / HDR10 / HLG
  • Input ports: 4x HDMI 2.1
  • CPU: α11 Gen2
  • Smart TV operating system: webOS 25
  • Screen sizes: 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″, 83″, 97″

LG G5 OLED price estimate

LG hasn’t yet confirmed the pricing of the LG G5 range, however, we can get a bit of an idea from looking at the pricing of the previous generations on release. Whilst the different sizes of the G3 were quite a bit cheaper than the G4, we expect the pricing of the G5 to be more in line with the later G4, though there may be some variation. The one size we might see a significant change on is the 97-inch model, which had a (frankly ridiculous) price jump up from the 83-inch variant – hopefully this year’s is significantly cheaper. We also don’t have any historic guidance to based the price of the new 48-inch model on, though given the C4 of the same size was priced at $1,599 last year, the more advanced G5 will likely come in for at least $1,799.

What panel technology will the new LG G5 TV come with?

As we’ve previously reported, LG hasn’t yet revealed the specific source of this ‘Brightness Booster Ultimate‘ tech, however the likely source seems to be so-called ‘4-stack OLED’ panels. These new panels are not only (apparently) capable of reaching higher peak brightness than the previous generation of MLA panels, but are likely also more affordable to manufacture, which seems to be the likely reason that LG has moved away from the pricey MLA technology.
