LG says its upcoming native 1000Hz FHD monitor is the “new performance benchmark” for competitive gamers

LG has just unveiled a new UltraGear gaming monitor that offers a native 1000Hz refresh rate. As you might expect from such a ridiculously high spec, this is a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel focused on esports and competitive gaming. It was last year when we started hearing more about ‘true’ 1000Hz gaming monitors from the Chinese brand AntGamer (with some help from AMD).

In its announcement post, LG says the UltraGear 25G590B is the “world’s first Full HD gaming monitor with a native 1000Hz refresh rate”. AOC and Philips have previously released 1000Hz displays of their own (1440p in fact), but both of them are dual-mode monitors. These drop your resolution down to 720p in order to support the full 1000Hz, only offering up to 540Hz natively.

LG expects the new esports display to launch “in select markets” in the second half of 2026, with wider availability coming “throughout the year”. The company has not revealed any price information, and it’s difficult to judge just how much it will cost when you consider its world-first status. Either way, we should soon hear more from LG regarding when pre-orders will arrive.

While LG calls 1000Hz a benchmark for competitive gamers and esports, it’s hard to imagine a world where many gamers will be able to make the most of such a refresh rate. Even Nvidia admitted last year – around the time of the RTX 50 series launch – that reaching 1000Hz is going to take “a lot of frame gen to get to”. This is certainly not something competitive gamers will be rushing to do, given the fact that frame generation is known to introduce latency.

As an alternative, there is a small selection of Nvidia Pulsar monitors already out there. Although these are all 1440p 360Hz displays, the Pulsar technology promises to offer an effective 1000Hz motion clarity.

Looking back to AntGamer, the esports company produced a ‘white paper’ describing the kind of hardware required to fully utilize such high refresh rates. It noted that titles such as Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG could support 1080p 750Hz gaming when pairing high-end gear such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080 – far from the typical spec for these games’ playerbases.

We also remember an extreme 9800X3D overclock (liquid nitrogen cooling required) that helped Valorant reach 1500 FPS in a benchmark at the time of the CPU’s release, though this is obviously a massive outlier compared to usual gaming benchmarks.
