Meta has just announced a few adjustments to the price of its Quest 3 and Quest 3S VR headsets. The former is now $100 more expensive than its original MSRP, while the more budget-oriented 3S model is an extra $50. These changes come into effect on April 19, so if you’re in the market for one right now, then you probably shouldn’t delay your purchase.

We’ve seen a wave of price hikes across the tech industry in the past few months due to AI-fuelled memory and storage shortages. For PC builders, the price of DDR5 RAM has been inflated for months, and console gamers felt the effects even more when Sony recently increased its PlayStation 5 prices for the third time in total. Handhelds have also been suffering.

Unsurprisingly, Meta singles out rising memory chip costs as a major reason for the upcoming price changes, adding that the current market situation is affecting nearly all types of consumer electronics. On the bright side, all Meta Quest accessories will remain at their current prices, though refurbished headsets will still be affected.

With the Quest 3 soon to be $100 more expensive, Meta is definitely keen to reassure its customers that the Quest series remains excellent value for money. In its official post, Meta says the Quest 3 and Quest 3S “remain the best-value headsets on the market,” adding that they “keep getting better long after you buy them” thanks to consistent updates. The company highlights features such as the Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, along with ever-growing support for new games on Quest.

Meta remains committed to investing in VR and leading the category because we believe this is the future of computing. We have a long-term roadmap full of new hardware and experiences, and this adjustment helps us stay on track to deliver that future.

While the Quest series may still be considered one of the best value options, that may change by the time Valve’s Steam Frame VR headset comes out. It’s fair to say, however, that it is also likely hurt by component shortages and price inflation.

Steam Frame was originally due to release in early 2026, but memory-related delays have set it back (alongside the other Steam hardware that Valve plans to release this year). We still don’t know how much it will cost, but it is at least expected to be more approachable than the $999 Valve Index that came before it.
