New Nvidia RTX 5050 rumours point to potential release date and component changes

In the last generation, Nvidia didn’t release a card below the 60 series, as its lowest-tier Ada card was the RTX 4060. Yet, this generation is shaping up to be different, as increased rumors are starting to point to the launch of an RTX 5050 graphics card is on the way. The mobile version of the chip looks to be all but confirmed thanks to a new leak from Acer, now the desktop version is getting some more news on it.
One of the least exciting cards – and rather an underpowered tier at that – the RTX 3050 was the previous version that came out back in 2022, right at the end of the Ampere generation. This time, it’s not taken as long for Nvidia to add an entry-level offering to the Blackwell lineup, as according to Videocardz, the budget graphics card is slated to release in July.
If it sticks to that release, it would come out within six months of the 5090 and the entire Blackwell range of cards during that period, a rapid turnaround compared to more recent launches. Unless we see some Super or Ti’s as well, it almost feels like it’s all over already.
A cut-back card spec
Following the leak of the release date, the specs have also been gradually revealed. One of which that bench life seems to confirm is the variance in the memory onboard. Using machine translation, their article confirms that AIC partners have obtained information indicating that the RTX 5050 will utilize GGR6 memory from Samsung and SKK Hynix in the future.
Also using a different die of the GB207, the card is rather cut back and looks to be a cheap one at that. By implementing these cost-saving measures, you’d hope that the price would come down, offering a more affordable entry into modern graphics. However, with only 8GB of slower GDDR6 memory, it might be a dud from the get-go. Considering the RTX 5060’s decline in popularity and media scrutiny, it’s unlikely to receive a favorable review, given its limited amount of memory.
But like always, only time will tell and it’ll be interesting to see how this GPU compares against some of the market’s leading budget entries.
