A leaked Nintendo Switch 2 mockup from this year’s CES has surfaced on X, with some fans unhappy about the noticeable bezels and raising doubts about the photo's credibility.

Although Nintendo isn't taking the big stage at CES 2025, plenty of highlights have emerged from the event, including this alleged image of a Nintendo Switch 2 mockup claimed to be based on the real console. The image originates from popular accessory maker Genki, who had previously shared a rendered video of the Nintendo Switch 2 on their website.

The picture quickly made its way onto X (formerly Twitter), where users have criticized the apparent bezel size on the next-gen console. Some are questioning why Nintendo would stick with such a design, while others are skeptical about how a third-party company like Genki could possess a replica of the real Switch 2.

Bezels as big as the original Nintendo Switch?

The current Nintendo Switch features a fairly thick bezel around its screen, which feels outdated compared to modern displays that emphasize bezel-less designs. It's hard to see why Nintendo might continue with this approach for the Switch 2. Perhaps the company is aiming to preserve the nostalgic feel of older handheld devices. While the bezels on the alleged Nintendo Switch 2 mockup don't seem as large as those on the current model, they are still quite noticeable and significant.

While there's no way to confirm if this mockup is genuine or if the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a bezel redesign, current speculation suggests that a significant design change is unlikely. Regarding authenticity, fans are understandably skeptical about the leaked photo, with some even calling it “AI-generated.” However, it's important to note that this is indeed a physical replica. Nevertheless, it raises questions about how a third-party company like Genki could have access to the official Nintendo Switch 2 and freely share a replica with the public. While Nintendo hasn't announced a specific release date for the device, the company has confirmed plans to unveil it within its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.

A more plausible explanation is that Genki may have obtained key details about the next-gen console and used that information to create their alleged model. However, that’s just a sea of rumors with no certainty.
