The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a massive success. We can already see this based on an evidently hectic pre-order period, which saw some online storefronts crashing, and the fact that Nintendo’s own sales forecast predicts better year-one sales than the original Switch. One important specification about the new console is that its handheld screen is LCD, not OLED.

As you may know, the original Switch is available with LCD and OLED models, the latter arriving several years after the console was originally released. However, if we’re lucky, Nintendo may fast-track an OLED version for the Switch 2. Reports from Bloomberg reveal that Samsung (a brand known for its fantastic OLED TVs and monitors) is collaborating with Nintendo.

Samsung is reportedly teaming up with Nintendo

The report from Bloomberg, which claims that Nintendo has turned to Samsung to make “the main chips” for the device in order to ramp up output, also claims that the brand is pushing Nintendo to use OLED panels.

“Nintendo Co. has turned to Samsung Electronics Co. to help make the main chips for the Switch 2, a move that may help the Japanese company ramp up production of the gaming console enough to sell a higher-than-projected 20 million units by March 2026.”

“The Korean company [Samsung] has also pushed for OLED panels to be used when Nintendo refreshes the Switch 2 in future.”

We already know that the custom GPU in the new Switch 2 is developed by Nvidia, which claims “up to 10x the graphics performance” versus the Switch 1. Testing done on a simulated version of the console suggests native performance will be closer to 7x to 7.5x. We already know that it supports DLSS upscaling, which likely makes up the remaining performance claims.

Nintendo Switch 2 arrives in two weeks from now, on June 5th. It launches (and can be bought bundled) alongside Mario Kart World, which Nintendo devs recently revealed would fail to run at 60 FPS on the original Switch; the game is exclusive to the newer console.
