Fresh reports suggest that Nvidia has cut back production of its RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti (8GB) GPUs. Supply has been reduced, according to the Board Channels forum, which is associated with and frequented by board partners. Interestingly, it seems the 16GB model isn’t included in these supply reductions.

It’s fair to say that 8GB GPUs have fallen out of favor with many PC gamers. Based on user polls, many believe that 8GB of VRAM “isn’t enough anymore” for gaming, and it’s evident that people are voting with their wallets, as 16GB cards outsell their 8GB variants by a large margin at popular retailers.

RTX 5060 reduced by 30% and RTX 5060 Ti 8GB reduced by 15%

Chinese publication IT Home also reports on this news, claiming the tech giant has ‘temporarily’ reduced the supplies of the RTX 5060 series, seemingly not including the 16GB 5060 Ti. The report reveals RTX 5060 supply has been reduced by 30%, while the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti has seen a 15% reduction. This reduction will affect GPU partners (Zotac, MSI, PNY, ASUS, etc.) if they wish to produce any more AIB cards, limiting the supply of GPU and memory bundles.

The latest good news for graphics cards is that NVIDIA has begun reducing GPU purchase orders from AICs. This reduction in quantity will temporarily limit the number of GPUs AICs can receive. This will maintain pricing for some models, better balance supply and demand, and maintain a healthy sales environment for brand manufacturers and distributors.

According to reports, NVIDIA has begun reducing the supply of the RTX 5060 Ti and 5060 series from its original planned purchases, with a 15% reduction for the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti model and a 30% reduction for the RTX 5060 series. Therefore, judging from the first half of September, the supply and demand relationship for these two models is expected to remain relatively tight. The extent of the shortage will depend primarily on actual demand conditions. As for prices, they are expected to remain more stable or even see a slight increase.

8GB graphics cards have been getting a fair bit of criticism lately. Even though just a few generations ago, 6GB was more than enough, modern AAA games are getting increasingly demanding on memory – especially as AI upscaling and frame generation tech is relied on more and more. As such, we hope the baseline is lifted for the next generation. Intel already did this with Battlemage; the entry-level Intel Arc B570 comes with 10GB, and latest RDNA 5 leaks point towards AMD lifting the floor to 12GB.
