Nvidia fans are looking forward to the RTX 50-series GPUs, which are expected to offer significant performance improvements over their predecessors. These are expected to launch early next year, but Nvidia has yet to reveal its launch plan. And now, according to a recent report from Board Channels, Nvidia has reportedly stopped production of most of its RTX 40-series GPUs, indicating that the company has now shifted the majority of its focus to the RTX 50-series.
Nvidia may have stopped production of most RTX 40-series GPUs
The report claims that “According to sources upstream, NVIDIA has completely shut down the AD106 production line, with all its capacity reallocated to the RTX 50 series lines. Only a single AD107 line is temporarily retained. As a result, the RTX 40 series has entered its final quarter of clearance, with mid-to-high-end RTX 40 GPUs gradually halting production and supply. The transition is accelerating, and AIC (Add-in Card) brand partners will face decreasing availability in the market.”
What this means is that except for GPUs that use the AD107 chip, Nvidia has halted the production of all RTX 40-series GPUs. For those who don’t know, the AD107 chip is used in the RTX 4060 (both mobile and desktop variants) and the laptop RTX 4050. So, apart from these two GPUs, every other graphics card in the RTX 40-series is reportedly now out of production.

We’ve already seen previous rumors of the RTX 4090 being discontinued, and this fresh leak seems to be the next step.
How long until the 50 series?
As per the latest rumors and leaks, the RTX 50-series is currently scheduled to arrive in the first three months of 2025. The RTX 5090 is expected to arrive in January, so it will be the first GPU from the series to hit the market, followed by the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti in February. And finally, in March 2025, we’ll most likely get to see RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti. While this is just a rumor, the recent halt in production of the RTX 40-series indicates that the company might be planning to release them in early 2025 after all.
If you’re thinking about buying a new GPU soon, this news could impact your choice. Some online retailers might start offering discounts to clear out the remaining RTX 40 cards to make room for the RTX 50-series lineup. However, there’s also a chance for the prices to rise as stock gets low. On top of that, scalpers and resellers may also try to take advantage of the situation.
