Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs might launch with DLSS 4, according to a new leak

Table of Contents
Nvidia has a massive GPU market share due to having better hardware and software. According to the December 2024 Steam hardware survey report, 75.43% of all users have an Nvidia GPU, and what puts them above the competition is the AI upscaling technology or Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).
Currently, the RTX 4000 series GPUs have DLSS 3, and with the expected release of the RTX 50 series graphics cards this month, many are wondering whether we'll get the next iteration of DLSS or have the same DLSS 3 tech. For the time being, features such as DLSS 3 frame generation are exclusive to the current 40 series. That being said, a recent leak seems to suggest that DLSS 4 could be part of the package, which makes this upcoming release all the more interesting.

Is DLSS 4 confirmed? Not quite yet, but it seems likely
According to a post from kopite7kimi on X (formerly Twitter), we could see DLSS 4 with the RTX 50 series GPUs. In addition, a leaked picture from Tomasz Gawroński (@GawroskiT) shows that the RTX 5080 GPU is marketed with DLSS 4 on an unknown retailer with a €1,699.95, which after a simple conversation is $1750.49.
If this is true, then we might be in for a wild ride. DLSS 3 offered excellent additional performance, enabling Team Green's cards to handle even the most graphically demanding titles with ease. This upscaling and frame generation technology helps boost performance greatly – especially useful for budget GPUs that can do with the extra help, but it also lets models like the flagship RTX 4090 push for 4K with ray tracing.
While yes, this card is the most powerful right now, when we ran Cyberpunk 2077 with ultra settings at 4K with Ray Tracing enabled, we got 43 FPS. However, by enabling DLSS 3, this number shot up to 133 FPS, which is a testament to how much software has improved to push hardware to deliver even better results.
We can only imagine what the performance of the RTX 5090 will be like with DLSS 4 as it is expected to have 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM and a 512-bit memory interface width. However, even budget and mid-range GPUs should be able to punch above their weight class with this technology. That being said, all of this information comes from leaks, and there isn't official confirmation, so we recommend taking this with a pinch of salt.
