Back when sales of the RTX 5090D, Nvidia’s flagship GPU for the Chinese market, suddenly halted a couple of months ago, there was no immediate replacement. Since then, we’ve heard rumors of an ‘RTX 5090DD’ – though the actual name of the graphics card was yet to be finalized. Now, it is being referred to as the 5090D v2, according to Chinese publication HKEPC.
This news has also been backed up by a reliable hardware leaked known as Zed__Wang on X, who has posted what appears to be some branding for the new model, though it could easily be a simple mock-up. Regardless, the new name seems to be what Nvidia is going with, though be sure to take this with a grain of salt, as the the company has yet to confirm any details.
Nvidia set to launch the RTX 5090D v2?
The original RTX 5090D was designed to be compliant with the U.S Department of Commerce, which introduced shipping restrictions for Nvidia’s flagship cards, cutting back on the AI performance of the original version. The was the same last generation, too, as we saw two separate SKUs: the 4090 and 4090D. However, for the 50 series, further U.S. restrictions have been put in place that warrants a v2 model.
According to HKEPC, the 5090D v2 will feature many of the same specs as the original RTX 5090D, but will suffer a downgrade to memory. This lines up with previous rumors regarding the memory configuration, dropping from 32GB to 24GB of VRAM.

“The latest news is that NVIDIA will not use the GeForce RTX 5090 DD model as the naming method, but will continue to use the GeForce RTX 5090 D model and add “v2″ as identification. It is currently scheduled to be launched in August 2025. Although the memory capacity is reduced, the price is not expected to change much.”

With a launch slated for next month, gamers in China will have to decided whether the cut-down specs are really worth it, especially considering the price isn’t expected to change very much. Right now, the RTX 5080 is the most powerful card readily available in the region and Super variants aren’t expected until half a year from now. The rumored Super GPUs are expected to deliver more VRAM for the 5070, 5070 Ti, and 5080.
