Oblivion Remastered modders already have more tools to play with

Table of Contents
It wasn't long before the PC modding community made an interesting discovery that Bethesda's latest Oblivion Remastered is just as moddable as the original, thanks to the game using the same engine as the OG Oblivion under the hood. Well, you can guess the rest as modding sites like Nexus Mods had over 200 mods uploaded just days after launch, and now a new tool is here to help modders even more.
One of the issues the community came across was the fact that since the game uses Unreal Engine 5 as a wrapper to deliver the “tremendous visual” enhancements and appears to replace models directly within Unreal, modding is limited without a script extender or an easy way to move models around. This is exactly what this tool aims to address.

Expect Oblivion Remastered modding to get even better
The Oblivion Remastered Script Extender, or OBSE64, was uploaded on NexusMods and, according to the description, is a modder’s resource that expands the game’s modding capabilities. OBSE64 enhances the game’s scripting system, giving modders the ability to create complex features like new gameplay mechanics and visual tweaks.
However, according to the creator, OBSE64 currently acts as a “plugin loader,” meaning it connects the game to smaller modding components, which then add specific features like improved NPC behavior or custom interfaces. Unlike the original Oblivion's modding tools, OBSE64 isn't a direct copy, as Oblivion Remastered uses both its classic engine and Unreal Engine, which complicates communication between them.
That said, despite the complications here and there, modding for Oblivion Remastered has been going great, and performance tweaks and character customizations aren't the only things we've seen. In fact, the game has already been seen running in VR thanks to the UEVR mod, complete with motion controls, and the latest update now tests dual wielding, bow and arrow, magic, and even horse riding.
