PlayStation Portal gets a new update with 1080p High Quality mode and a few other neat improvements

Sony has rolled out a brand-new system software update for the PlayStation Portal, bringing several improvements focused on visual quality, usability, and overall experience. The update started rolling out globally on March 17 (PDT) / March 18 (CET and JST), and it introduces a range of new features for players who use the device for Remote Play and cloud gaming.
One of the biggest highlights of the update is the addition of a 1080p High Quality mode. With this new option, players can now stream games at a higher bitrate compared to the standard 1080p mode, which results in sharper visuals and a smoother experience. This mode works with both Remote Play and cloud streaming. Users can enable it through the Quick Menu by selecting the maximum resolution setting and choosing the High Quality option. The change takes effect after restarting the streaming session.
1080p High Quality looks nicer, but uses more data
Sony has also made several improvements to the cloud streaming experience. A new and improved product detail page now allows users to select specific games when launching from bundles, making navigation more straightforward. Game invites are also easier to notice now, as players will receive clear on-screen notifications while streaming, so they don’t miss invitations from friends.

Another upgrade comes in the form of enhanced trophy notifications. When unlocking trophies, players will now see the trophy name and its image more clearly, with platinum trophies now including a special animation. On top of that, the search screen has been improved, with the on-screen keyboard appearing instantly to make searching faster and smoother.
Sony has also worked on making the device easier to set up. The update introduces a simplified onboarding process, allowing new users to quickly create or sign in to their PlayStation account by scanning a QR code with their mobile device. This reduces the steps needed to get started with the Portal.
