Rockstar Games has reportedly spent more than a decade building GTA 6, and the game’s scale has reached a point where even the developers don’t know everything it has to offer. According to Rockstar’s head of development and co-studio head Rob Nelson, the game is so large that there may not be a single person on the team who has experienced every part of it.

Speaking to IGN, Nelson discussed how Rockstar approached the world of GTA 6 and the challenge of expanding on what worked in previous games while still making the new entry feel fresh. He explained that the team wanted to keep the familiar elements that make GTA special while giving players more reasons to explore and interact with the world.

GTA 6 too big for the developers to know it inside and out?

Nelson says, “The game is so big, I don’t know that there’s anybody on the team that knows all of it.” While that doesn’t necessarily mean there are entire areas unknown to the developers, it does give us an idea of just how much content and detail Rockstar has packed into the world of Leonida, a fictional U.S. state based on real-world Florida.

We’ve already had a taste of that scale through the GTA 6 Extended Look, which gave fans a much deeper look at the game than either of the previous trailers. The presentation showed Jason and Lucia, different parts of Leonida, side activities, vehicles, combat, NPC interactions, wildlife, and plenty of small details that Rockstar is adding to the world.

The Extended Look also pushed GTA 6 hype to another level. Following the presentation, demand for the hardware expected to deliver the best console experience appears to have increased, with the PS5 Pro selling out at several U.S. retailers. Third-party sellers have reportedly been asking far more than Sony’s $899.99 MSRP, while some eBay listings have climbed to around $1,499 or more.

With GTA 6 scheduled to launch on November 19, fans won’t have to wait much longer to explore Leonida for themselves. And considering even the people making the game may not know every corner of it, there could be plenty of surprises waiting when it finally arrives.
