Xbox and ASUS ROG teamed up to create the ROG Xbox Ally – the current-gen Windows handheld was released less than two months ago (along with its more powerful sibling, the Xbox Ally X). Now that we’re firmly in the holiday season, a price slash has come along to make this an ideal Christmas gift for any gamer. Sadly, the flagship X model is still listed at full price.

Regardless, the new ROG Xbox Ally is powered by one of AMD’s latest Z2 processors, the Ryzen Z2 A, and comes with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Usually priced at $599.99, you can get it for just $489.99 on Amazon right now; other retailers have dropped it to $499.

First major ROG Xbox Ally deal

We did see some smaller price adjustments around the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period, but the current $100+ deal is a massive drop in comparison. Amazon price tracking websites, such as Camelcamelcamel, make this obvious. So, if you’re looking for a new gaming handheld right now, either for yourself or as a gift, the ROG Xbox Ally is a fantastic choice.

Xbox even posted about the ongoing deal on its official X account, and closely follows other PC gaming handheld discounts we’ve seen lately. Black Friday saw the Steam Deck get a generous 20% price drop for a limited time, while we also spotted the SteamOS version of the Lenovo Legion Go S on sale at the official storefront. Both deals have since expired, so if you’re in the market for a handheld right now, the ROG Xbox Ally is one of your best options as long as this deal lasts.

Deals season is here folks, and with it comes a plethora of eye-catching price cuts on some of the industry's most popular tech. Below are some of the best deals you can find right now.

Why we like the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally

There are a few reasons why the ROG Xbox Ally stands out from the crowd of other handhelds. Along with the Xbox Ally X, it shipped with the new Xbox Full Screen Experience, which Microsoft has since dished out to other Windows 11 devices.

1080p screen, 120Hz refresh rate

When compared to the Steam Deck, the ROG Xbox Ally features a higher resolution and faster refresh rate, offering crisp and smooth visuals on its 7-inch screen. Like previous ROG Ally handhelds, the newer Xbox-branded model also offers Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) tech to ensure a gaming experience free from tearing, ghosting, and other similar screen artifacts.

Latest-gen hardware and comfortable design

While it’s not as powerful as the Z2 Extreme in the ROG Xbox Ally X, the non-X model features the Ryzen Z2 A chip, ideal for 1080p gaming, which Xbox claims is “console-caliber performance”. These newer Z2 chips focus on improved efficiency and battery life – the Xbox Ally also has a 60Wh battery, allowing you to play longer than the original ROG Ally’s 40Wh.

3 months of Xbox Game Pass Premium included

Sadly, you don’t get the full Ultimate subscription, which would give you access to day-one games, but the Premium tier isn’t bad either. Xbox has advertised a ton of games available on the service in December, the majority of which are available to Premium members, too.
