RTX 5090 3DMark performance leaks out, here’s how it compares to the 4090, 4080 Super, and AMD’s flagship
Table of Contents
Nvidia’s new RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs arrive at the end of January, with the 5070 and 5070 Ti to follow in February. This has left enthusiasts eyeing up the flagship 5090, searching for more information on its performance. We recently looked at leaked Blender results for the RTX 5090, which suggested that the next-gen flagship could be 36% faster than the last-gen flagship.
And now, another performance leak for the RTX 5090 has surfaced. This data has arrived pretty close to when Nvidia will reportedly lift the embargo on the RTX 50 series, which will give us a detailed look at rasterization performance.
RTX 5090 shows big performance gains in several benchmarking tests
According to data provided by Videocardz, those eyeing the RTX 5090 can expect an average performance improvement of 20% over the RTX 4090. The 5090 was tested across multiple synthetic tests on 3DMark, where it dominated with notable performance uplifts, including:
- 36% improvement in FireStrike (Performance/Extreme/Ultra)
- 33% improvement in TimeSpy (Performance/Extreme)
- 46% improvement in other tests (Speed Way, Port Royal, Steel Nomad)
This represents a promising leap over the previous generation. For example, in FireStrike 1080p, the RTX 4090 scored 36,328, while the 5090 reached 48,732. Additionally, in Steel Nomad 4K, the RTX 4090 scored 9,216 compared to the 5090’s impressive 14,133. In our own RTX 4090 review, you can see further benchmarks for the card in synthetic and gaming tests.
But the comparisons don't stop there. As you would expect, the RTX 4080 Super and AMD’s flagship RX 7900 XTX struggled to keep up, with the 4090 trailing by as much as 50% in some cases, and the 7900 XT falling behind even further.
