RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 specs leak online, Nvidia’s next flagship looks to be miles ahead of the 4090

Table of Contents
Several GPU leaks have surfaced online as we draw closer to the release date of Nvidia’s next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards. These are expected to be the two flagship models from the upcoming RTX 50 series, which is currently slated for release sometime in early 2025, if current speculation is anything to go by.
At first glance, it looks like the new flagship 5090 will offer a sizeable upgrade and stand well above the rest of the pack, likely leaving AMD in the dust and creating perhaps even a larger performance gap than we saw between the 4080 and 4090.

RTX 5090 rumored to upgrade its VRAM and much more
First up is the RTX 5090, which will no doubt be the best GPU for gaming on the market once it launches. Based on these leaked specs, courtesy of known hardware leaker kopite7kimi on X, we can now provide a close comparison of the current-gen and next-gen flagships.
Right away, we notice a large uplift in just about every category, which is reflected in its high 600W TDP. Furthermore, Benchlife has chimed in with some additional details such as an upgraded PCIe 5.0 bus interface and DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity.
Specification | RTX 5090 (leaked) | RTX 4090 |

GPU | Blackwell GB202-300-A1 | Ada Lovelace AD102-300-A1 |
SM count | 170 | 128 |
CUDA cores | 21,760 | 16,384 |
VRAM | 32GB GDDR7 | 24GB GDDR6X |
Memory bus | 512-bit | 384-bit |
Memory clock | 28 Gbps | 21 Gbps |
Memory bandwidth | 1,792 GB/s | 1,008 GB/s |

As always, take any leak with a pinch of salt, but if these are indeed confirmed at a later date, then the RTX 5090 is going to leave the rest of the competition behind – especially with AMD likely not releasing a high-end GPU next-gen.
RTX 5080 seems to be less of an upgrade
Looking at the leaked specs for the 5080 doesn’t impress quite as much. Based on what we know so far, it may not surpass the RTX 4090 and sadly sticks to 16GB VRAM. On the plus side, it should benefit from the same generational upgrades such as PCIe 5.0 and GDDR7 memory. Again, these leaked specs were provided by kopite7kimi for the most part.
