RTX 5090 pricing remains up in the air, but a new rumor again suggests it could be over $2,000
Table of Contents
A rumor last month that claimed the upcoming RTX 5090 will cost as much as $2,499 was quickly quashed by a reputable leaker online who claimed it won’t be as expensive as the rumor would suggest. However, the conflicting reports don’t seem to be solved once and for all as yet another more recent source claims the same top-end 2.5K price tag.
We thought we were done with speculation that the new flagship model would cost significantly more than the RTX 4090 – which launched back in October 2022 for $1,599. Since then, you’d be lucky to grab the 4090 for that price and we’ve even witnessed it going up in price as end-of-life nears.
Fresh rumor backs up the $2000+ price tag leak
Last month’s price leak came from the YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead who claimed the 5090 could cost between $1,999-2,499 but that didn’t last long until it was shut down; we’d say that MLID’s success rate is often questioned. However, the fact this price range has cropped up again has piqued our interest and could indicate a level of legitimacy. Still, any of this speculation is to be taken with a grain of salt.

The latest rumor posted today comes from user wjm47196 on the Chinese forum site Chiphell. They claim the 5090 MSRP will be the very same as what MLID leaked a month ago, as high as $2,499. This comes from the very same user who revealed the launch window of the Ryzen 9000 series (before AMD announced some last-minute delays).
In the post above, there’s also a reference to GDDR7, the latest version of GDDR SDRAM which the 50 series is speculated to feature. In fact, we’ve already seen a list of some leaked RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 specs. According to those, the 5090 will be fitted with 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM – this is a notable upgrade compared to the 4090’s 24GB GDDR6X. In the same leak though, we were left somewhat disappointed by the news that the 5080 could be sticking to 16GB.
