Samsung has unveiled two new portable SSDs at Gamescom 2026, bringing faster external storage to users who need to move large files quickly. The new Samsung P9 and P7 both use USB4 connectivity and are designed for everything from large game installations to high-resolution video and AI workloads.
The P9 is the flagship model and offers the highest performance of the two. Samsung says it can reach sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and write speeds of up to 3,800MB/s. That is roughly twice the sequential performance offered by the previous-generation Samsung T9, which reaches up to 2,000MB/s.
Another major highlight is its capacity. The P9 is the world’s first 8TB portable USB4 SSD capable of reaching up to 4,000MB/s, making it particularly interesting for professionals who regularly work with very large files. Samsung says its sustained write performance is also good enough to support 12K direct recording, allowing creators to capture and work with large RAW images and ultra-high-resolution video.
