Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced that it is increasing the prices of some of its products. This decision comes after months of rising memory costs that have made it harder to keep prices stable. For the past six months, memory prices have been rising, and the company has made the tough decision to hike the price of some of its products – but only by $5 to $10 USD.

At the start of this year, Raspberry Pi tried to prepare for upcoming price increases by buying and storing memory in bulk, well in advance. This allowed the company to keep its prices stable for a while, even as costs increased. But now, those extra supplies have run low, and the company can no longer absorb the rising costs on its own. As a result, it has decided to adjust the prices of some products starting October 1st.

Raspberry Pi price changes between $5-$10

Here are the new price changes:

  • The 4GB Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5 will each cost $5 more than before.
  • The 8GB Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5 will each increase by $10.
  • The Raspberry Pi 500 (unit-only) will now cost $100, going up by $10.
  • The Raspberry Pi Development Kit for Compute Module 5 will now cost $135, an increase of $5.

For the Compute Module 4, this price hike actually reverses some price cuts Raspberry Pi made earlier this year to help customers. The company has at least managed to keep the Raspberry Pi 500 kit at $120, but it admitted it is doing so with a much smaller profit margin. Products with 1GB and 2GB memory are not being affected by these changes, just some of the brands’ 4GB and 8GB devices.

Raspberry Pi is also making a few changes to older products. The Raspberry Pi 3B+ will now cost $40 instead of $35, while the Compute Module 1 is getting cheaper, dropping by $5, down to $25.
