Steam Deck, Valve’s popular handheld gaming PC, will officially be available in Australia next month. Steam Deck was released in February 2022, and at that time, it was only available in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe. After about a year, the handheld was released in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
The announcement was made at PAX Australia, and it was posted on Steam Deck’s official X handle. “We are excited to announce that Steam Deck is coming to Australia in November 2024! The team is in Melbourne at PAX AUS, so stop by our booth if you’re in town to try out Steam Deck,” the post said.

The first time you can ‘officially’ buy a Steam Deck down under
Interestingly, Australian gamers have been waiting for the release of the handheld gaming PC for a long time. In fact, since the device wasn’t available in the country, a lot of users ended up importing Steam Deck.
“As someone who bought an imported one through Kogan, I could not be happier for us Aussies. The Steam Deck has been an incredible purchase for me, and this will hopefully start making the competing products drop their prices in Aus because the markup is quite insane, honestly,” one of the users wrote on Reddit.
Starting in November, Australians will be able to order Steam Deck directly from Valve’s website. Here’s what the prices look like:
- Steam Deck LCD (256GB) – $649 AUD
- Steam Deck OLED (512GB) – $899 AUD
- Steam Deck OLED (1TB) – $1,049 AUD
Steam Deck OLED, which is an improved version of the original handheld, is slightly expensive, as you can see above. It comes with a better display, longer battery life, and other tweaks. That being said, we reviewed the original Steam Deck and found out that this was still a great piece of equipment when it comes to design, performance, and reliability.
Now, the official announcement only mentions ‘November’ – we don’t have a specific date as of yet. However, Australian gamers can head over to the official Steam site and wishlist the handheld device. There does not seem to be a pre-order period. This would suggest that you’d be able to order as soon as Steam Deck is launched.
