Last month, Valve revealed that its new Steam Machine and Steam Frame would launch during the summer. The former has been out for nearly a month, but we’re still waiting for the new VR headset to be made available. We’ve seen a handful of indicators to suggest it’s just around the corner, and the latest is the addition of Frame compatibility ratings on the Steam Store.

Similar compatibility ratings for the Steam Machine and SteamOS appeared on the store earlier this month, so it was only a matter of time before the Frame would get the same treatment. It’s still all bundled under the ‘Steam Deck Compatibility’ header on the right side of the store page, though we’d expect the wording to be updated in the future.

Steam Frame Compatibility appears alongside other Valve hardware

More and more games are being added to the ‘Great on Frame‘ page – which appeared earlier this month – with one of the first to make an appearance being Valve’s very own Portal 2. Even though this isn’t a VR title, the Steam Frame compatibility guidelines still account for standard ‘flat’ games, as users can project a virtual screen within VR to play these titles.

Ever-reliable data miner/leaker Brad Lynch also highlighted several code changes in a post on X. Notably, it includes the removal of content labeled ‘WIP’ and the introduction of more content surrounding the setup/Welcome Tour process. He suggests Valve is “ready for launch” – all things considered, you may be able to expect an announcement sometime this week.

At the end of last week, Bloomberg reported on a major price hike for Qualcomm chips. Considering the Steam Frame is fitted with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, gamers may be in store for a last-minute price hike. Valve is yet to announce how much the device will cost, so the Qualcomm news is another hit to an already rocky year of shortages and inflated prices. The Steam Machine launched for much more than originally planned, but Valve is estimated to be selling more than 15,000 per week.
