Waiting for the Steam Frame has become a little tiresome, especially after Valve’s 30th anniversary came and went without any official news. On the bright side, the number of ‘Great on Frame’ titles continues to grow, with now more than 100 and counting listed on the official Steam storefront. Valve had previously promised a summer release window, and it’s shrinking fast.

Much like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine, the Steam Frame will come with Valve-reviewed compatibility ratings. Valve has already explained the requirements for Verified status: for performance, 72 FPS must be reached in VR mode at 1728 x 1728 resolution, which is below the native 2160 x 2160 per eye. The standard drops to just 30 FPS at 1280 x 720 for running 2D titles.

List of Great on Frame games continues to grow

With the standalone compatibility requirements in place, the number of Steam Frame-compatible titles has grown massively over the past few weeks. At the time of writing, there are 111 titles listed on the official ‘Great on Frame’ store section. Anyone with a Steam Frame or Steam Machine will know that these ‘Great on ___’ games are prominently featured on the respective devices.

Action Hero, Stellar Cafe, and Fruit Golf are the three upcoming titles already compatible with the Steam Frame – all three are designed for VR; however, Stellar Cafe (from the co-creator of Job Simulator) can also be played in a standard 2D format. None of them yet have a release date – they’re labeled ‘Coming soon’ for now.

While we’re on the topic of upcoming titles, we’d like to point out Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone, a promising VR shooter. It came to our attention after its developer, ANB_Seth, announced plans to launch at the same time as the Steam Frame, but given the lack of news from Valve, it now launches on September 10 (and we’re no closer to knowing when the Frame will release).

Based on rumors circulating online, the hardware is expected to start shipping on September 14, preceded by pre-orders around a week earlier. Of course, nothing has been confirmed by Valve just yet, but maybe expect something to happen next week.
