There’s a surprising discount on Lenovo’s budget-focused handheld right now. The Legion Go S has a major price cut (dropping under $640) while other handhelds face price hikes, including the Steam Deck and retro handhelds such as those from Retroid. Even Lenovo’s very own Legion Go 2 suffered increases earlier this year, and many retailers now struggle to keep it in stock.

The LCD Steam Deck is no longer sold on Steam, so your only option directly from Valve is the OLED. On top of that, price hikes in May made the OLED model up to 51% more expensive in some regions, and the latest stats show Steam Deck sales have tanked as a result. With this turn of events, the Legion Go S is effectively the new affordable SteamOS option, as long as this discount lasts.

Lenovo Legion Go S now available for less than its original MSRP

Lenovo advertises an “exclusive price” for the Ryzen Z2 Go version of the Legion Go S, which comes with SteamOS installed. We also noticed that Amazon and Newegg are running discounts on the handheld, but the Lenovo store maintains the lowest price. At just $635.54, this specific model is now even cheaper than its launch day MSRP, which was $649 before all the hikes.

This exclusive discount is courtesy of the EXTRASAVEAFF eCoupon, applied at checkout. We cannot say how long this offer will last, or how long the limited-time deal will last on Amazon and Newegg either.

The Legion Go S on offer here is fitted with the Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB of system memory, and 512GB of storage. It’s an 8-inch handheld (bigger than the Steam Deck LCD at 7 inches and the Deck OLED at 7.4 inches), while offering a smooth 120Hz max refresh rate on an IPS panel – higher than both of Valve’s handhelds.

The cheapest Steam Deck on the official store is the 512GB OLED, currently $789 after this year’s sharp price hike; it was previously available for $549. So, if you’re looking for a SteamOS handheld, the Legion Go S seems like the way to go right now.
