The latest installment in the Raspberry Pi lineup is here: the Raspberry Pi Pico 2. It comes with a handful of innovative features, and most importantly, it is powered by the RP2350 chip, which the company is so confident in that it set out a challenge for all the hackers out there to crack it.
That said, if you manage to breach its defenses, your hard work will be rewarded with $10,000. However, don’t expect it to be a piece of cake. The aforementioned confidence comes with huge backing, as they have already had this chip vetted by a security company.
$10,000 for whoever cracks the new RP2350 chip
Here is the breakdown to give you an idea of how it’ll work. All you have to do is find an attack that will allow you to extract a 128-bit long secret hidden in the OTP ROW 0xc08 and protected by RP2350’s secure boot and OTP_DATA_PAGE48_LOCK1. So, it’s easier said than done, but if you manage to get past all the security measures, send an email to doh@raspberrypi.com with the details or visit their DEF CON booth at the Embedded Systems Village for your grand payday.
With everything, if you’re still confident in your ability to crack it open and want to give it a shot, check out the RP2350 hacking challenge on GitHub. It has all the information you’ll need to get started. Keep in mind that you only have till 7th September 2024, 4 PM UK time to submit your findings.
